01 · PRODUCT OVERVIEW

ARBOREN® AC-09 Smoked Oak

AC-09 is ARBOREN's signature smoked oak herringbone engineered wood flooring — a floor of exceptional depth and character. Three layered surface treatments (brushed, smoked, and saw-marked) are applied in sequence to create a richly textured, warm-brown finish that evokes centuries-old European oak flooring.

Engineered over a precision three-layer core, AC-09 delivers the grandeur of traditional herringbone parquetry alongside the practical performance demanded by contemporary luxury interiors — including full compatibility with underfloor heating and a straightforward click installation system.

Product Grading — CD (Character / Rustic)

AC-09 is produced in CD grade. Each plank features natural knots, colour variation, open grain, and medullary rays — characteristics of mature European oak that are highly prized in high-end residential and hospitality design. These are intentional features, not defects.

03 · CONSTRUCTION

3-Layer Engineered Core

The AC-09 is built on a three-layer cross-ply engineered construction — the gold standard for stability in premium wood flooring.

TOP LAYER · EUROPEAN OAK

4 mm

CORE · CROSS-PLY HDF

7 mm

BALANCE LAYER · BIRCH VENEER

4 mm

Total thickness: 15 mm | Wear layer: 4 mm (sandable up to 3× over lifetime) | Compatible with click-lock floating installation and hydronic underfloor heating up to 28°C.

Why Engineered Construction?

  • 4 mm wear layer can be sanded and refinished multiple times across decades — matching solid wood longevity
  • Cross-grain HDF core counteracts seasonal wood movement, maintaining joint tolerances of ±0.1 mm at 30–70% RH
  • Click-lock system allows floating installation without adhesive, reducing installation time and cost
  • Validated for water-based underfloor heating — distributes heat efficiently without cupping or gapping

04 · SURFACE CHARACTER

Brushed · Smoked · Saw Mark

Three surface treatments are applied in sequence to create the distinctive AC-09 aesthetic.

STEP 01

Brushed

Wire brushing removes soft early-wood fibres, leaving harder late-wood ridges proud. Creates a subtle textured relief that deepens the grain visually and improves underfoot grip.

STEP 02

Smoked

Ammonia fuming reacts with natural oak tannins, producing a rich warm-brown tone that penetrates deep into the wood fibres. The colour is inherently stable, lightfast, and develops beautifully with age.

STEP 03

Saw Mark

Circular saw marks are applied across each board, replicating authentic hand-sawn historical timber aesthetics. Combined with brushing, this creates a layered, multi-directional surface texture of exceptional depth.

05 · INSTALLATION GUIDE

Click System — Fast & Precise

AC-09 uses a precision click-lock tongue-and-groove system, enabling floating installation over most standard subfloors without adhesive.

Subfloor Requirements

  • Concrete, screed, timber, or existing tiles
  • Flatness: ≤ 3 mm per 2 m
  • Moisture content: ≤ 75% RH
  • Clean, dry, and structurally sound

Acclimatisation

  • 48 hours in situ before installation
  • Room temperature: 18–22°C
  • Relative humidity: 40–60% RH

Installation Method

  • Floating click — no adhesive required
  • 2 mm expansion gap around all fixed objects
  • Do not glue or nail the floating floor
  • Install doorbar profiles at all room transitions

Underfloor Heating

  • Fully compatible — max. surface 28°C
  • Commission gradually: +1°C per day
  • Thermal resistance: 0.09 m²K/W
  • Switch off UFH 24 hrs before installation

Floor Care — UV Lacquer

Daily care: sweep or vacuum with soft brush attachment. Washing: well-wrung damp mop with pH-neutral wood floor cleaner — never wet mop or steam clean. Fit felt pads under all furniture legs. Place doormats at entrances. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight without window protection. Full care guide provided with every order.

08 · FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the size 15/4 × 260 × 2200 mm mean?

The total board thickness is 15 mm. The '4' refers to the solid European Oak wear layer — 4 mm thick. The board width is 260 mm and the length is 2200 mm. The 4 mm wear layer is particularly significant: it allows the floor to be sanded and refinished multiple times over its lifetime, making its longevity comparable to solid wood flooring.

What does CD grading mean?

CD grade (also called Character or Rustic grade) means the planks are selected to include the full natural character of mature oak — including knots, colour variation, open grain, and medullary rays. These are intentional and desirable in high-end design, giving each floor a unique, authentic aesthetic. Select or Prime grades are available in other AC-series colours upon request.

Is AC-09 suitable for underfloor heating?

Yes. AC-09's three-layer engineered construction is fully validated for hydronic (water-based) underfloor heating systems. Maximum recommended surface temperature is 28°C, thermal resistance 0.09 m²K/W. The heating system must be commissioned gradually — increasing by no more than 1°C per day. Electric UFH systems are also compatible; contact our technical team for your specific system.

What is UV Lacquer finish and how do I care for it?

UV Lacquer creates a hard protective film on the wood surface, providing excellent resistance to scratches, stains, and moisture — ideal for high-traffic areas. For daily care: sweep or vacuum with a soft brush attachment. Cleaning: use a well-wrung damp mop with pH-neutral wood cleaner. Never wet mop, steam clean, or use abrasive products. Fit felt pads under furniture legs.

Can I order custom dimensions or finishes?

Yes. ARBOREN's bespoke programme allows full customisation of dimensions, stain colour, surface texture, and finish type. Custom production typically carries a minimum order of 200 m² and a 45-day lead time from production sample approval. Custom colour samples can be produced within 8–10 business days. Contact our sales team with your project brief.

Do you provide free samples of AC-09?

Yes. Complimentary A4-sized samples of AC-09 are dispatched within 5 business days to most international destinations. We strongly recommend sampling before ordering — screen colours and photographs cannot fully convey the depth and character of the smoked and saw-marked surface. Request samples via ARBOREN@arboren.com or the contact details below.

What warranty does AC-09 carry?

AC-09 carries a 25-year residential warranty and a 10-year commercial warranty, covering structural integrity and manufacturing defects. The warranty is valid when installation follows ARBOREN's technical guidelines and the floor is maintained with approved care products. Normal wear, colour change due to light exposure, and damage from improper installation are excluded.
